Red

Red lived at Kim’s Home for three years. She had had an appalling life before that. Her gypsy owner told me that he first knew of her when she was young and had been bought in Northampton. She was a good courser and frequently changed hands for good money. But then she got lower and lower in the coursing circles and was brutally treated by her owners. One of them mated her to a German Shepherd!  As he recounted the people who had owned her, I counted 11 owners. And then she was just about to be passed to the children of the last owner, who frequently kicked her, when my pal bought her instead for £500. She was pretty exhausted by then and not much of a courser and so he gave her to me. Little wonder then that she had a bad heart. So I was at least her fourteenth home.

I’m just so thankful that I was able to offer her three years of comfort, warmth, gentle treatment and lots of love at Kim’s Home.

Red died in January 2006. She had been ill for a few days but wanted to come out on a walk with us early one morning. Somehow she got into a collision with another dog – she was not even running and she died in my arms a few minutes later. She was such a big character that I still miss her 6 years later.
