Quince
Quince was an amiable English Springer Spaniel. He was part of our family at Kim’s Home for just over a year and a half. His previous family, who had had him since he was 8 weeks old, had seen fit to put him in the dog pound just before Christmas when he was ten years old. I can’t imagine why because Quince was clean, loving and amenable every day.
Quince was an insecure little dog and needed lots of confirmation that he was loved. We had our main 1-2-1’s at breakfast time when he was the only dog invited to share my breakfast. And he would fly through the door to the dining room as soon as my toast and coffee were ready.
Quince was used to being an only dog but he managed well in the big family of dogs here. He was chief cleaner-upper in the back of the van after wet walks. Zebedee was his minder and kept his eyes clean.
Quince should not have died so young. He was attacked in the park by a Staffie x Pitbull and suffered terrible wounds. These healed, but I believe that the trauma battered Quince’s immune system and he was ill of various things after the attack until his death a few months later in August 2006 aged 12.
